Mario's Lovely Ladies

There are a multitude of Casanova's in the video game world; from the subtle, gentlemen types such as John Marston, to the obnoxious, over the top personalities like Dante from Devil May Cry. Most people don't consider the video game's MVP as a top contender in the lady killer category.

Mario, the Italian Stallion himself, puts all the Jersey Shore stars to shame. Not only has he had his fair share of girlfriends over the years, but they have nearly all been princesses! In the words of Kanye West, "I'm not saying he's a gold digger, but he aint messing with no broke...princess".

Mario has been a grounded man lately, loyal to Princess Peach (originally Princess Toadstool) for over 25 years since her debut in Super Mario Bros for the NES. While the pair is still technically an item, their relationship has undoubtedly been strained over the years due to predicable kidnapping followed by lengthy, extravagant rescues over and over again.

Their tumultuous relationship has introduced several other ladies into the mustached master's world, some more interesting and others more worthless than the last. Let's take a look at the women in Mario's life starting with the first ever damsel, Lady aka Pauline.

Name: Originally Lady, later named Pauline

First Appearance: Donkey Kong, 1981

If you haven't heard of Pauline we don't blame you. She's not a princess, just a regular woman who has been captured by a giant monkey. Even though the King Kong scenario isn't the most innovative concept to hit gaming, at least she can say that she was Jumpman's (Mario's first name) first girlfriend, the original damsel-in-distress.

Name: Originally Princess Toadstool, later named Princess Peach

First Appearance: Super Mario Bros, 1985

Mario's most steady girl. Her hobbies include baking, gardening, and being captured more times than we can count. As the Princess of Mushroom Kingdom she rules over walking, talking mushroom men who can't seem to do much other than send Mario to his doom over and over again. Maybe the Toads should take some Call of Duty military training for the next time Bowser comes around. I guarantee the outcome would be very different.

Name: Princess Daisy

First Appearance: Super Mario Land, 1989

Daisy is the tomboy of the pack. As the princess of Sarasaland she loves flowers and...the color yellow? While she isn't the most known or embraced princess of the Mario universe she has become increasingly popular in the past few years due to her playable roles in games such Mario Sports Mix and Mario Kart Wii.

Name: Rosalina

First Appearance: Super Mario Galaxy, 2007

Now here is a "princess" that actually does something. Being the guardian of the cosmos is an intimidating job title. Not to mention that she must watch over an entire race of star creatures, the Lumas, which can transform in to comets, stars, and planets? Out of all the women in Mario's little black book, I wish he would settle down with the queen of the galaxy. She's hard working, powerful, and IMMORTAL.

Mario definitely has an interesting taste in women; his girlfriends range from helpless to all-powerful and everything in between. If you were Mario, who would you choose?

The Best PS2 Games of All Time

5. Final Fantasy 10
This was the first Final Fantasy title to launch on the PlayStation 2. Never before did we have a story-driven RPG with voice acting and stunning graphics. I'm happy that a Final Fantasy title was able to be the first to reach that milestone. Square Enix deserved it.

4. Grand Theft Auto 3
Rockstar reinvented the 'sandbox' genre with Grand Theft Auto 3, making a completely different game from the previous two Grand Theft Auto games. The most noticeable was obviously the game now being in 3D. The amount of liberating freedom you have in that game is amazing.

3. God of War
God of War had excellent presentation and was one of the most polished PlayStation 2 games to ever release. By polish I mean few bugs(which was important considering the PlayStation 2 didn't make use of 'patches' much like PC games do) and smooth gameplay. The sequels were just as good but the original game is what opened the doors for those games. It has unique brain-bending puzzles and a combat system that is terrific, allowing you to do button mash mini games to give a final executing blow to your foes. This one was a favorite of mine.

2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
This was the first Metal Gear game to appear on the PlayStation 2 and it was an instant classic. Hideo Kojima improved a lot of aspects from Metal Gear Solid including the ability to aim in an over-the-shoulder viewpoint behind Snake. Hideo said this was a tough decision because the game would no longer be the traditional Metal Gear Solid birds eye view type of gameplay. It was for the better though.

1. Shadow of the Colossus
After it's success, the devs who made Ico decided to go big. Literally. Shadow of the Colossus features gameplay that no other game could compare with. Fighting giant colossi. The player got a satisfying sense of accomplishment after taking down one of these huge beasts. The variation between the different Colossus was great with each one requiring a different strategy to take it down. They can even be considered as puzzles to be honest. The game has a touching story with an ending that leaves no stones unturned.

Conclusion
There you have it. My pick of the top PlayStation 2 games to ever release. The console had a great run and many of my most memorable gaming experiences were with PlayStation 2 games. The PlayStation 2 was also my last console, as I have now moved on to being full time PC gamer.

I hope you enjoyed list of the top 5 Playstation 2 games to ever release.

The Top Most Difficult RPGs

RPGs are not the most common genre of video games, but to those die hard gamers it is the only thing they truly enjoy. RPGs can take hours of continuous play to beat, and even then it takes a huge amount of strategy to accomplish. Over the last decade many RPGs have been released that top the charts of video games, and here I will cover the top five most challenging ones.

To begin is Kingdom Hearts, released in 2002. This Disney based game is a very complex and difficult game. This game is very difficult because, like any RPG you must level up to gain strength, and sometimes the game will throw enemies at you that are a much higher level than you. I did finish this game and it made me a better game because I learned to rely more on the AI.

The second RPG is Final Fantasy XIII, released in 2010. This game, like all other Final Fantasy games, is a very long and complex game. You are introduced to progressively harder and harder enemies and bosses. I did finish this game and it made me a better gamer through the way it made me look at puzzles and how I assessed the battlefield.

The third RPG is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, released in 2003. This game is honestly one of my favorites but it is a very hard game in the constant puzzles and obstacles that are presented to you through the game. It took me a very long time to finish the game but I did it, and it made me a better gamer in the way that I outfit my characters. This game is very hard and what you fit to your character can make the difference between life and death.

The last and best RPG is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, released in 2011. This is a very spectacular and glorious game. The aspect of this game that constantly keeps you on your toes and makes it all that more difficult is the constant changing of the game. You never know exactly what monster will jump out and attack you as you continue through the game, and every experience is different for every person. I did complete this game and it made me a better gamer by always keeping my guard up and constantly saving my game every few minutes.

How the PS3 Is Changing and the Use of the Bundle

The PS3 was the best selling console of last year in the EU. The competitive price tag and high spec hardware that you couldn't find in other gaming consoles was a major selling point. Sony dropped the price by over £200 from the original RRP and this led to a huge boost in sales figures. A 160GB Playstation 3 Bundle is as low as £164.99!

Released over 5 years ago in 2006 and priced at a whopping £425, it was the second fastest selling console ever in the UK after the PSP. The PS3 was a powerful machine and contained a specially developed cell processor. Built-in Wi-Fi and a 60GB hard drive were included. The extra large PS3 had its own backward PS2-compatible hardware, memory stick, SD and compact card slots.

The latest model is the PlayStation 3 slim; although it has changed a lot from the release model it still has the main hardware such as the Blu-ray player, in-built Wi-Fi and 1080p graphics. What it doesn't have though is the backwards compatibility for PS2 games and has lost 2 of its USB ports amongst some other things. These sacrifices were made to reduce the cost of the console and the size of the first edition PS3 was a monstrosity of a machine.

The PS3 has evolved into more than just a gaming console though, with internet browsing and access to streaming channels such as the BBC iPlayer and LoveFilm it is more of an entertainment hub. With its Blu-ray playback capability in addition, it is difficult to justify buying a stand-alone Blu-ray player for the narrow price gap.

The top selling PS3 Bundles this year so far include the brilliant Uncharted 3 deal. An official PlayStation 3 bundle that includes well known developers, Naughty Dog's absolutely brilliant Uncharted 3 and also a copy of the "Faster" Blu-ray.

Bundles have always been a great way to attract customers and maximise sales. By combining a few different popular products, console retailers are able to boost console sales by offering customers a game to play on and a Blu-ray to watch. Every gamer purchasing a new console needs a game to get them started and it also helps to increase sales for that particular game. By offering a Blu-ray, gamers are also able to see the HD-power of their brand new PS3.

Less profit is taken by bundling items together but the overall sale makes up for this. This is why bundles are popular now and will continue to be with the consoles of the future.

Playstation Move - A Brief History

Originally known by several names, the Playstation Move was originally unveiled in June of 2009. There was a huge debate within Sony Entertainment as to what to call the motionless controller. The press had continued to incorrectly refer to it as the Magic Wand or the Wand. Sony eventually called it "The Motion Controller" and on September 2009 the name, "Move" was coined and used as the proper term for the controller.

The controller was in the works by Sony Entertainment as early as 2001. Early prototype versions of the Move were in circulation such as the Eye Toy but these motionless controllers failed to capture people's attentions. By 2008 Sony had finished work on the Move and was ready to launch it to the public.

With the public and media giving the PS3 Move rave reviews, the Move was being applied to all Sony Playstation wireless games. The first game to utilize this was Dual Shock 3, which enabled a player to use the analog stick of the Move for the use of the sword in game. Rumors also at the time speculated that Sony had developed the Move in retaliation against Nintendo Wii's wireless Nunchuck remote, but Sony denied any of those allegations.

The Move was finally released in January of 2010, being just a bit too late for the Christmas rush but right in time for all those viable game players to spend their Christmas money on this new remote. The logo probably has to be the most innovative thing with the Playstation Move, a blue squiggly shape which is supposed to be a representation of the light trail left by the Move as you move it about with the lighted sensor sphere within.

The Move was an automatic success which also incorporated a large selection of third party video game support, something very rare for new out-of-the-box designs such as the Move. Even today the Move sells almost a hundred thousand units.

One in three PS3 games is designed specifically to be used with the Playstation Move in mind. There are a good variety of PS3 Move Games available that are not too shabby as most of the games are quite entertaining and fun. Unlike controller specific games of the past for older game consoles, PS3 Move games don't leave you wanting more. It is no wonder the Playstation Move is so popular, and has made the PS3 into much more than it was on release. Whether or not the PS3 Move was designed in retaliation to the Wii, it certainly was a brilliant move (no pun intended).

Most Useful Video Game Support Characters

Fawkes - (Fallout 3)
Quote: "No more games, time to die!"

Fawkes is one of many potential companions in Fallout 3. Other helpers include Dogmeat the dog, Clover the slave, and Charon...the zombie man. I'm sure you can see why I chose Fawkes. This behemoth of a creature is one of the few super mutants in the post-apocalyptic wasteland that has retained a sense of civility and intelligence. And when intellect doesn't solve the problem, his giant Gatling laser will.

Sanguine's Dremora - (The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim)
Quote: "Another; who seeks death!"

From the get-go, Skyrim immerses players into a world rife with danger and hostility. This is no Wizard of Oz. The Dragonborn has to worry about much more menacing foes than lions, tigers, and bears. How about Dragons, Mammoths, and Draugrs? It's always helpful to have a little backup in dire times such as these. With the use of the Sanguine Rose, players can summon their own demonic henchman instantly into battle. Helpful AND smells nice.

Sheva/Chris - (Resident Evil 5)
Sheva Quote: "Your time's up you son of a bitch!"

Chris Quote: "I'm no superhero. But together, we can end this."

I couldn't have said it better myself. Zombies suck, and that's not including the other biologic monstrosities that lurk within the African landscape. Hey it's always nice having someone to take an inventory-organizing-break with too.

Metal Gear Mk. II - (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots)
Quote: "Robot Sounds"

What has two legs, stealth capability, a built-in taser and is controlled with a PS3 Dualshock 3? The answer is either the Mk. II or a really weird custom controller. While this robot does border the lines of cuteness, it makes up for its unassuming appearance with a multitude of helpful tools, gizmos, and gadgets. Why should Old Snake approach a band of enemy soldiers head on when he can utilize the Mk. II? Cloaking allows the Mk. II to sneak up behind unaware soldiers with ease. Its manipulator arm can emit a shock wave that knocks foes unconscious. Not to mention that this little guy can pick up items riddled across the battlefield AND it can be controlled from a remote location. If anyone hasn't guessed, I want one for Christmas.

Navi - (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Quote: "HEY? HELLO? LOOK? LISTEN? WATCH OUT!"

Navi is a know-it-all. She is a floating orb of encyclopedia knowledge that often presents itself in the worst or most unneeded circumstances. While many would argue that Navi's intrusions could be considered annoying, as an 8-year-old playing my first 3D Zelda adventure, I'd regard her inferences as a healthy mix of helpful tips and unaccommodating comments.

Donald and Goofy - (Kingdom Hearts Series)
Donald Quote: "Aw, what do you know, you big palooka"?

Goofy Quote: "Gawrsh! Don't like the looks of this place. I bet it's crawlin' with ghosts!"

The Kingdom Hearts series is about the weirdest idea for a video game that I've ever seen. Somehow the mix of Disney nostalgia and JRPG storytelling just works. I never thought that I'd be equipping some of my childhood icons with battle gear against hordes of souless monsters, but hey Donald and Goofy are surprisingly effective. What better companions could a pre-teen protagonist ask for other than real-life cartoon characters? Sora is one lucky guy.

King of Red Lions - (The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker)
Quote: "You must believe in your own courage, which has led you to triumph over the many hardships you have faced...and you must triumph once again! You must rise above the trial of the gods!"

The King of Red Lions is the King of Hyrule turned into a nautical vessel, and boy is he a trooper. His royal blood in no way effects his unquestionable work ethic, traipsing across a limitless ocean to help out a little boy clad in green clothes. What this boat lacks in stature, he more than makes up for in perseverance and usefulness in a world comprised almost entirely of water.

The Darkness - (The Darkness Series)
Quote: "Learn that you are my puppet!"

The Darkness is a double-edged sword. On one hand, yielding an all-powerful malevolent entity grants its host, Jackie Estacado a ton of badass powers including dual, soul-eating serpents. On the other hand, the longer the Darkness' power is used, the faster it will consume and completely take over the host. Regardless, that thing saved Jackie's life on more than one occasion, plus, having a god-like creature on your side can't be the worst thing to happen.

Shadowmere - (The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim)
Quote: "Horse sounds"

Transportation comes in all shapes and sizes in the video game world, with cars representing only the tip of the ice berg. Who wants to drive when you can ride on the back of a demon horse? Born out of a pool of darkness and sporting glowing red eyes, Shadowmere is no ordinary horse. Not only does this noble steed carry your character across one of the largest maps in the history of gaming, he is ready and willing to fight just about any creature that you can imagine. Dragon versus horse? Don't count Shadowmere out.

Dominic Santiago - (Gears of War Series)
Quote: "But I'm Dom. I'm a good guy. I don't threaten women, this isn't me, honestly."

In the world of everything delicious, peanut butter has jelly. In Gears of War, protagonist Marcus Fenix had Dominic Santiago. Like two peas in a pod, the war buddies have been to hell and back, through thick and thin, and in the face of such adversity, the duo have saved lives and ensured the survival of the human race. Awww.

Claymore - (Call of Duty Series)
Quote: "BOOM"

Some say the dog is man's best friend, others say a gun is the soldier's key ally; I say the claymore is quite possibly the best supporting character in Call of Duty's bag of goodies. This item of destruction can be a player's best asset on in the midst of combat, especially in Modern Warfare 2. Picture this, enemies abound, flanks at every turn, and a less than reliable team mate at your side, what are you to do? Utilizing the Scavenger Pro perk in combination with a certain explosive comrade allows for an infinite supply of Claymores and thus, a relatively impenetrable defense from enemies flanking from the rear or slipping through the cracks. Too bad they are practically useless in MW3.

Who are some of your favorite video game helpers?
