Health And Well-Being Benefits Of Gaming

We all heard from our parents that gaming is bad for our health. This holds true in some cases, especially when a gamer spends all his day and his life sitting on the sofa playing his favorite game. However, there are games that provide more benefits. There are a lot of recreations that even promote good health, which is not impossible with all the advanced gaming equipments available to us.

Playing activities like racing, war simulation, and first-person shooting matches improves the reflexes, the ability to plan ahead, and adjust to situations instantly. These are the things that a person needs in order to successfully dominate the game, and will be improved gradually as they continue to play these kinds of schemes. Although some of these activities may promote violence, the risk will be eliminated with proper guidance from parents.

I know that no one will oppose when I say that educational games have tons of benefits. However, this is an article that discusses the benefits of playing games, so I decided to include them. Puzzles, problem solving, and academic skills of our children are enhanced with the help of these games, even adults are learning something new while playing these education exercises.

Playing games these days no longer needs a player to sit all day on the sofa. In fact, using the Motion Plus controller of Nintendo Wii requires a player to physically move in order to play games. This will not only enhance the gaming experience, but will also help them burn fat and calories.

So, before you go with the saying that games are bad for your health, think again. Some activities may be bad for you, but with these new games on board, playing pastimes are becoming more beneficial. More than a source of entertainment, gaming is slowly shifting in to becoming a source of good health, fitness and well-being.

Gaming Community Software Systems and Strategies for Garmin Avionics Communication

Okay so, we living in a world that is constantly evolving on the technology front, and with all the internet communication going on, it's seems to be moving at a nice robust pace. Software and Systems engineers borrow ideas across industries and sectors, and why not. Speaking of which all these systems seem to be blending quite nicely, for instance take online gaming communities and consider how they've influenced the world of simulation, virtual reality, and augmented reality in the real world for training.

The other day, I was speaking to a computer hardware and expert gaming community think tanker, Troy Laclaire, about moving from using gaming community software for training simulators and applying this same software to the task of aircraft navigation, communication, and data information exploits. We noted that Garmin has sure come a long way with their recent GTN 650 and GTN 750 systems for private and corporate aviation. And, in considering ways to improve the uptime, constant flow of pertinent information, and increasing the rate of data transmission, well it seems appropriate to once again tap into the methodology of large gaming communities.

When using the GTN 650 or 750 it appears that the system is pulling in information all of the time, which would mean there really shouldn't be any delay in pulling it up, "however if its only pulling information for each "screen" as that screen is pulled up, then that could account for the delay," Troy noted. Okay, but only the information which is relevant, localized traffic, in that case, and weather radar information. Now then, Troy asks;

I do wonder, as the system gets into more use and the satellites have to transmit to more planes, if this might not eventually result in bottlenecks from the satellite system having to push more information, unless the satellites are just blanketing areas with information, which probably results in a lot of waste/3rd parties being able to receive information and tracking planes.

Now then, isn't this the exact same challenge that gaming communities have? Sure it is, data needs to get to each user, and the game cannot be delayed, or the action is stopped or slowed down, creating a nuisance, or challenges with continuity. In a game safety is not an issue, but in the real world it is, and the online gaming communities have figured out a way to make it all work even with the excessive bandwidth loads, and huge numbers of users.

Therefore, I ask the question; is the world of online gaming communities becoming one with the real world? If so which will survive or will they just blur into one. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Gaming Communities as a Simulation Tool to Fight Piracy on the High Seas

With all the 10s of millions of Americans playing online war games in gaming communities, it seems there is a tremendous amount of brain power being expended each and every day. These humans are learning to adapt, fight, strategize, and make decisions on the fly - with one goal in mind; to win, and, winning means scoring the most points, eliminating the most enemies, and surviving to fight another day, which does indeed sound a lot like the real thing - that is to say; war in the real world.

Training the military strike teams using simulation works and is a wise use of such technology. From logistical work to the tip of the sword simulation and online community gaming should be tapped to do this training. That makes sense right? Sure it does it makes sense on so many levels, and thus, I am pleased to say that it's now being done.

In fact, there was a very interesting article published not too long ago in Homeland Security News titled "New Anti-Piracy Tool: 1,000-Participant Internet Wargame" published on May 10, 2011" which stated; "The U.S. Navy is recruiting a community of more than 1,000 players from across the U.S. government to collaborate on solving real-world problems facing the U.S. Navy: high-seas piracy; the participants will be asked to suggest ways to combating piracy off the coast of Somalia."

In discussing this concept with a fellow think tanker, Troy Laclaire, we had considered who the participants are scheduled to be, and perhaps which groups were excluded, why, and even why they should have been included in this Massive Multiplayer Online War Game Leveraging the Internet or MMOWGLI. As you may well know, Troy is an expert on online gaming communities. Troy said he believed the idea was interesting yet also noted;

They will be pulling players from "academia, defense, and government and nongovernment organizations". Perhaps they need to setup such a system and allow for the average person to try it out. [This was they might] increase the talent pool, and perhaps get more solutions, [Also,] since they do say "nongovernment organizations" however, they should specify the type.

Troy has also suggested that perhaps these gaming simulations should be played by both gamers and non-gamers. And those expert gaming folks may indeed be able to add value to this strategy and come up with an array of realistic solutions as well. All great suggestions indeed and so, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Gaming Chairs Make You a Better Gamer

So I went to London for Christmas and New Year this year and man it was cold! It snowed the whole time so my friend Billy, who I was staying with, had plenty of time to show off his gaming skills to me. We played a ton of games and he whooped me every time! Hate it when that happens! He's got All the latest games and a pimped up Xbox to play them on.

Yeah I was impressed. May be I'm the last gamer in the world to find out about them, but the thing that had me buzzing the most was his brand new Gaming Chair. I kind of knew about them but never seen or used one before. Once I got in it - I was hooked! Did it improve my game? Nope! Did I have more fun? Yup! It was awesome - had hours, no wait, DAYS of gaming chair nirvana!

The guy spends all his time in it. He even sits in it to watch movies on his fat 42" high-def. flat screen! He didn't get a lot of time in it once I caught the Gaming Chair bug though! It's really contagious. If you're a gamer and you haven't bought one yet - you got to get one.

The first thing I did when I got home was to hit the net and check out what's available out there. There are lots of different types and they are really affordable if you know where to look.

Computer gaming chairs might be new to the world of gaming but they are a great way to have a better gaming experience. I mean they're not magic - they won't make you a world-class champion gamer - but they will help you get there if you want to improve, because you won't want to get off the gaming chair once you're in it! Some of these gaming chairs have an amazing sound system built it. The best ones have wireless transmission, sub woofers with integrated vibration systems, swivel pedestal bases, rocker bases and they connect to most of the popular consoles including iPods, TV's and MP3 players too. And the best thing is that you don't have to break the bank to get one.

I bought the Lumisource - 4.1 Surround Boom Chair, which is the same gaming chair as my friend Billy. They had it on special and I got it for less than $140.00!

This gaming chair looks super cool, is easy on the back and butt, light to move around and has all the best features packed into it for less than half the price of an iPhone!

"The 4.1 Boom Chair has a unique silhouette with speakers both aimed right at the user and from the headrest! The unique features of this chair are sound-activated features an ergonomic design, and two PAIRS of 3 inch internal speakers. This chair has an adjustable headrest, breathable mesh, and additional lumbar support for added comfort. The 4.1 features adjustable volume and bass/treble along with a fade knob that controls which speakers you want to sound to come out of, for a custom sound environment." - http://www.lumisource.com/4_1.html

The main features are:

* 2 Pairs of 3 inch 2-way speakers!
* Powerful 4 inch Subwoofer
* Adjustable volume and bass/treble control

The Gaming Chairs Online site specializes in Lumisource Gaming Chairs only, so you don't have to trawl the site to find the chair that suits you best. I found their site to be really easy to buy from and they did exactly as they said they would. Five days after I bought it a UPS truck pulled up outside my apartment and I was having hours of fun in my pursuit to whoop Billy the next time I go up against him!

Watch out buddy!

To check out all the best Lumisource gaming chairs in one place go to Gaming Chairs Online. They have lots of different types at very affordable prices to suit any budget. They provide a fast, friendly and efficient service and also have a some cool accessories. Have fun!

The Future of Social Gaming

The hottest trend currently in gaming is social gaming. Social gaming is very popular because it allows you to play with your friends or complete strangers and gives you the ability to communicate via a headset. Some of the most popular social titles are games like Halo, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Little Big Planet and many more.

New innovations like Xbox 360 Kinect and the PlayStation Move are changing the way you play games. These gadgets allow you to get a group of friends together or the whole family and play a game together. The Xbox Kinect does not even require a controller, YOU are the controller. The Kinect gives you a full body gaming experience which is very cool. The PlayStation Move is not as hands free as the Kinect, as it requires a wand-like controller, similar to the Wii console. The Move is also geared for the social side of gaming and encourages the entire family to get involved.

The first person shooter games like Call of Duty and Halo have benefited greatly from this social trend. Both PlayStation and Xbox have online portals where you can sign on for any game but these titles are probably the most well-known for being social gaming titles.

Another gadget that is impacting this gaming trend is the ability to take gaming anywhere is the pico projector. Picos allow you to project up to a 60" screen which is perfect for taking your gaming to go. Multi-player titles are the perfect application for pico projectors.

According to the sales numbers reported by Sony and Microsoft, the Move is currently outperforming the Kinect. Sony is reporting that since launching in September the Move has sold 4.1 million units worldwide. This announcement came after Microsoft announced it had sold 2.5 million units in the first 25 days.

Both of these devices should be popular with the holiday season right around the corner it will be interesting to see which gadget comes out on top.

You may have heard of the XBox Kinect and the PlayStation Move but have heard of a Pico Projector?

Pico Projectors allow you to take your gaming anywhere you go and gives you the ability to project anywhere at anytime, giving you a truly social gaming experience.

PS3 Gaming Is Going Social - Why Co-Op Is Set To Revolutionize the World

With the news that Sony has just launched a new social network site in Japan called the 'Play Community', it is the only confirmation we need that the future of gaming is social.

So much so that Sony have taken it upon themselves to bypass the Japan Social network Mixi completely, with a stand-alone version of their own.

Based pretty much on the look of Mixi, 'Play Community' has replaced the official PlayStation community sites in Japan and comes complete with some additional gaming features and a new social echelon, which is set to revolutionize how games are played and developed.

Play community allows you to integrate and merge your existing PSN friends list and there's a special section for recruiting friends for multiplayer partners. This opens the door for greater gaming social activity worldwide.

Already the evidence that Massive Multiplayer Online gaming is the new trend in gaming cannot be ignored.

You only have to look at Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 which has its own social network integration built into the game. Your achievements and milestones are automatically posted to Facebook.

The new Snowboarding Supercross game SSX, allows you to share unchartered routes with your PSN friends. This makes the whole solitary experience, which is the nature of this game just that bit more social.

In fact it's becoming clear with some game developers that single player versions are becoming a second-rate gaming experience.

In AC Revelations for example you need to play the multiplayer version to unlock rankings and disclose some of the games darker secrets and mythology. It's impossible to progress in this game unless you co-operate with your online buddies.

Perhaps the strangest form of this social interaction can be found in 'Journey'. The whole basis of the game is to force you to befriend nameless online strangers to help you through, and solve puzzles together. You're not able to find out the PSN names of these individuals or chat, but you have to rely and trust one another to excel.

On the flip side in Dark Souls, single play isn't really single play. During the game you have to align yourself with various factions and depending upon your choices these factions will send other real online players to either help you or to kill you.

The future of gaming is definitely social and it won't be long before this social networking phenomenon is fused with gaming rental and cloud services like Love film and Steam.

Sometimes it may feel that you are missing out on great games and falling behind because of the expense.

Yes you can go the game-trading route but a far easier option that I've found as a love film subscriber, is to make use of the love film free trial option to audition games.

It will save you a ton of money in the long run and as a love film game package user you'll also be able to rent and stream movies to ps3 too.

Is Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo Forgetting Hardcore Gamers in Favour of Motion Control Gaming?

Back at E3 this year, the big three gaming companies, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all debuted their plans for the next year. All of the announcements followed the same particular trend.. Motion gaming. Nintendo planned on releasing their latest console called the Wii U, a completely redesigned device that utilises a new controller with a built-in touch screen display. Microsoft showcased more titles for their latest platform Kinect (a device that captures the users movements and actions, making people the controller) and Sony try to push their Move controller (based on the Wiimote, it interprets the user gestures and movements into the game). It seems like the big three are forgetting about the people who used to buy their products ten years ago, the hard-core gamers. In a bid to push their new devices to the main stream public, there was very little mention about games that didn't involve waving your arms in front of a TV screen or jumping up in down in your living room. Call me old-fashioned, but I care about games that are filled with game play and a deep story rather than games that leave me a in a sweat and looking like an idiot.

Ever since Nintendo released the Wii back in 2006, Sony and Microsoft have been playing catch up, desperately trying better Nintendo's attempt of making gaming available of the masses. Video games have long been associated with a small group of people, generally male and in their early teens. However Nintendo broke that trend and made a console designed for the mass market, bringing mum and dads, grans and grand dad's in on video gaming. To be fair to Nintendo, they have done well with the Wii. It was a great success, selling 89 million units so far (33 million more that the PS3 and Xbox 360) making it Nintendo's best-selling games control. As far as Nintendo is concerned they had achieved what they set out, making Video gaming more appealing to the main stream market.

However as a by-product of making video gaming more appealing to a wider audience, (In my opinion) the games became easier and less appealing to the hard-core gamer. I think, in a trade-off between making games more appealing to a wider audience, Nintendo have alienated the people who might have bought their controls 10 years ago. The question is, while the big three pushing their latest devices, how long will it be before we see established PS3 and Xbox franchises such as Final Fantasy, Call of Duty and Gears of War adopt motion controlling. I cant imagine playing my favourite games without a controller joystick in my hand. For example at E3 this year, Lion head studios (The developer of the Fable series) announced they would be releasing Fable: The Journey. The new title in the series would abandon the traditional controller, in favour of adopting Microsoft Kinect. Watching the trailer it looked very promising, letting the user cast spells and fire guns by just using gestures with their hands, until it became clear that you didn't control your characters movements, just where he fired his guns. Essentially the game's character was on rails, in a fixed place until you defeated the enemy's on the screen. The ability to roam around freely and adventure on your own (One of Fables previous selling points) has been removed in favour for motion gaming. I don't think I'm the only person to feel cheated that one of my favourite franchise title's gameplay had been watered down to take advantage of gimmicky motion gaming.

To close, I hope Sony and Microsoft don't forget about their loyal following that appreciate games which involve depth and gameplay and don't sell substandard games in order to appeal a wider audience. Call me old-fashioned or a skeptic but I would prefer playing Skyrim or Call of duty sitting on a sofa and not waving a remote in front of a TV, and I hope I'm not the only one.

Are Motion Controls the Future of Gaming?

In our current console generation, I can see a trend towards adding motion controls to everything. With the rise of the Kinect, Wii, and Move, it seems that every new game must have either motion control support, or a token element of motion control. In Halo Anniversary, they added Kinect support in the form of voice-activated reload, grenade throwing, and an "analyze mode" where by shouting analyze, the game scans objects and adds them into an in-game codex. Now while you don't need a Kinect in order to play this game, it is suggested. Is this a marketing ploy, another bullet point for the back of the box, or is it actually beneficial to the gameplay. With Halo, a game that has been hailed as one of the most innovative and trend setting of the past decade. Does this mean that every game that has taken even a little bit of influence from Halo is somehow incomplete, less of a game than they would be if they took their inspiration form the newly Kinectified version of the game.

Currently motion controls feel more like a hindrance than they do a liberator in games. Very few of the popular motion controlled games are actually better for having these controls. Players are limited by what they can do with a Wii-mote as compared to what they can do with a mouse and keyboard or controller. The limits that they impose are greater than those that they remove.

But even with these complaints, I can see the possibilities. When they originally announced the Kinect, the first things that I imagined were the computers from Minority Report. I hoped for those kind of intuitive controls and possibilities on the Xbox, but alas, they are not quite to that point yet. But the day that they do reach that point of control, and that kind of interface, is the day that I can see almost total adoption and integration of motion controls, in almost every game, and to almost every gamer, hardcore or casual.

I love video games, but I don't want to stand in front of my TV, waving a plastic wand in the air and hoping that the character on screen does what I say. Added to that is the fact that it is impossible to not look ridiculous while playing any of these games, I'm serious. If you doubt me, look it up on YouTube, you'll know what I mean then. But the point is that these games aren't fun for me, and for many other people, so why should we have to change the way that we play just to please those of us that do like this play style.

In the end, we have to remember that we've seen this kind of thing before. Does anybody remember the Virtual Boy. How about virtual reality arcade games. If not, there is a reason for that. These things failed for several reasons, not the least of which is the limitation that the controls instill in the games. I caution the three big console companies to be wary in their design decisions, for they are not always wise. Don't put all of your eggs into the motion control basket, lest it go the way of the past several iterations of so-called "innovative" technology.

Gaming Time for Dads, Relaxing With Or Without the Kids

Males take over an extremely specific role once they turn into a dad. A dad is really a reward in itself. The smiles you see, the tears you wipe, the stories you share with your child about when you were young. These times are priceless and will often be held very close in your memories. Yet you still need time to yourself so you can enjoy what you like as a person.

One example would be a gaming dad. As a gaming dad, when your children are taking a nap or sleeping in bed, that's your time to play games and or socialize with other dads online. A great resource for this is the Xbox 360 where you can have other dads or friends you know in real life on your friends list. There are numerous games that appeal to gaming dads. From racing games to FPS (First Person Shooter) games like any of the COD (Call of Duty) games. It's a great relaxing way to unwind from a long day of being a great dad!

Now what if your little ones are old enough to play the Xbox with you? By all means let them join you in the fun. There are TONS of games that dads can play with his kids and everyone will enjoy themselves! Games like Castle Crasher's and Batman. There is nothing like a dad and his kids saving the day and having fun doing it.

Gaming dads with older kids may possibly want to play a dancing game with them. Dancing games will add comic relief since it is fun to watch everybody dance. Just Dance 3 is an excellent game which will accomplish this. You'll find 45 tracks on this game, so each person will discover a song they each like to dance to. Plus as an added benefit you'll be able to play the game you would like to play so game time will in no way be boring.

There is no reason why dads can't be gaming dads. Gaming time is relaxing time and can be utilized as time spent with the children. Gaming dads can appreciate time by themselves, and it's often a very good way for them to clear their heads. Or appreciate time spent gaming with their little ones. Anyway you look at it, gaming is often a fun way for dads to get to have some fun while relaxing with or without their kids. It's a win-win experience.

Gaming Is a Blessing: The Benefits of Gaming

Many parents and people believe that gaming does nothing but rotten an individual's mind, but that is not necessarily true. Parents are so convinced that video gaming consumes that mind of their children that they fail to realize the benefits that they can bring to their child. One of the most common benefits discussed about gaming is that they are great tools to improve a child's hand and eye coordination, but they can also help with critical thinking skills, personal fitness, socializing and give parents the reassurance that their children are not out on the streets getting into trouble. Video games can be more beneficial than a parent would think.

Of course one of the major concerns about video games is that it is a distraction to the youth, it only produces couch potatoes and good for nothing individuals, but with me being a gamer myself I find those statements to be far from the truth. Video games enable individuals to think critically due to the fact that most games produces in my generation are complex and they require gamers to solve puzzles or answer trivia in order to proceed to the next level. For example games like Uncharted: where the main character is on the quest to find a historic treasure, throughout the game you are asked to complete difficult puzzles in order to unlock the way to the treasure. This game required me to use my brain and come up with creative ways to solve the puzzles. These games also help with building creativity in the mind of its gamer, by taking them to places they never would imagine, defeating magical creature and doing the impossible. With the help of video games kids can increase their mind which can be beneficial as they get older because businesses love new bright and creative minds.

Being healthy is a major concern around the United States, especially with the stereotype that Americans are overweight and unhealthy. Video games can be the solution to all the health concerns of America. With majority of the games created today requiring intensive physical movement, most gamers can get a hard workout without even setting foot in the gym. There are dancing games and exercise games that allow gamers to have fun with family and friends without even knowing their getting a workout. Video games are making being in shape something fun to do by giving gamers new exciting ways to stay healthy. Games are a great way to entertain your kids and also keep them physically fit. Yes its true that games may keep children in front of the television for long periods of times, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Parents think about it, with all the violence young people are getting into these days isn't it great to see your child safely out of harms way? Children spending countless hours on the video game can help parents make sure their children are safely in the house, instead of running the streets. Video gaming is like an ultimate anti-drug for kids. With all of the drugs and crime that is surfacing the streets of the world, I'm sure you parents would rather see your child playing the new madden.

Lastly, video gaming has become a social norm for today's society by letting kids interact with their friends and also create new friends through online gaming. Majority of kids in America play them, which allows kids to share similarities with other kids and build closer bonds and friendships. they can also create healthy relationships between kids and their friends; this can result in a healthier childhood for your child. So before you go and label video games as a negative influence, think again and realize all the benefits they have to offer.

My Saddest Gaming Moment

Let me first start by saying I am not an emotional person. I watched the Notebook without blinking an eye, I conquered Marley & Me while maintaining my composure, and sat through 3 and a half hours of James Cameron's Titanic more annoyed than depressed. Movies simply have not been able to affect me in any profound way. You sit in a movie theater for a few hours, endure some poignant scenes and as soon as it' over, out of sight out of mind. It's hard to develop that lasting connection with characters you only see on screen for a limited time.

Video games however are an immersive experience. You don't play the spectator role and watch the protagonist save the day, you are the hero. Not to mention that video games, especially RPGs, can range from 10 to 100+ hours. There is more than enough time to relate to characters, embed yourself in the story, and submerge yourself in their world.

I've only encountered a few gaming moments which made me feel genuinely gloomy. The end of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was one. It left me with a miserable feeling at its closure, but nothing close to tears. Several Final Fantasy titles showcased heartbreaking moments. Aerith's death in FF7 was a shocker, but I was more upset that I wasted my time leveling her up than her getting stabbed through the stomach. Final Fantasy X's ending was one to note. If my dreamt up boyfriend jumped off an airship and disappeared I'd be pretty upset too.

But by far Final Fantasy VIII is the game that has emotionally impacted me the most. Though the game as a whole was somewhat forceful with its romantic encounters and at times as predictable as a chick flick, I couldn't help myself from investing in the drama.

To see her floating in space, running out of oxygen, it really crossed my mind that she was going to die. This time however I wasn't worried about how much money I wasted buying equipment for her or leveling her up, I was genuinely invested in her character and all the things she had left to do. If you are one of the people who have not had the pleasure of playing FF8, I highly recommend it. Especially if you enjoy character depth and the moments like this that define emotion. This has been a brief recollection into my saddest video game moment.

My name is Taylor Stein. I'm a college student and avid gamer who loves to reach people of similar interest through writing. After founding gamingprecision.com I decided to pursue a solo venture that would encapsulate my personal gaming journey called Gamer Girl Tay.
