Understanding The WoW Economy, Professions and Various Classes!

Beginners Guide To World of Warcraft

Classes and Class Types

The class you choose to play in WoW is one of the first big decisions you'll have to make and one that has a direct impact on how you'll experience the game!

Each class plays a specific "class role" in World of Warcraft where they will either serve as a Healer, Tank or Damage Dealer. Some classes are what are known as "hybrids" where they can serve as any combination of the three main class roles.

Lets take a look at the 10 different available classes in WoW and their different class roles.

Class Class Type/s

Hunter - Ranged Physical Damage Dealer

Priest - Healer, Ranged Magic Damage Dealer

Paladin - Tank, Healer, Melee Damage Dealer

Shaman - Healer, Ranged Magic Damage Dealer, Melee Damage Dealer

Warrior - Tank, Melee Damage Dealer

Warlock - Ranged Magic Damage Dealer

Druid - Tank, Healer, Ranged Magic Damage Dealer, Melee Damage Dealer

Rogue - Melee Damage Dealer

Mage - Ranged Magic Damage Dealer

Death Knight - Tank, Melee Damage Dealer

The Death Knight was introduced with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and is only available once a player reaches level 55

As you can see each class performs a certain class role or combination of class roles, for instance the Rogue is purely a Melee fighter and specializes in close quarter combat, whereas the Priest relies on long range magic spells and healing abilities.

Solo-Questing

When you first set out on your magical journey there's not much to do in World of Warcraft except locate, complete and return quests. Quests are a vital aspect of the game and how you'll earn most of your XP and items.

Finding quests is easy, quest-givers can be located all throughout Azeroth and are represented by the yellow exclamation mark on your map.

Once you've accepted a quest you can hone in on the location of the quest and check the quests details by opening up your map. Different quests are represented by the yellow circles with a number. Simply clicking on that quest icon will bring up the quests details.

Once you've completed a quest you'll need to return it to the quest giver, quests ready to be returned are represented by the yellow circle with a question mark on your map. Once completed and returned you'll be rewarded with XP, money and sometimes even items to equip your character with or sell!

Grinding

"Grinding" is a term coined for World of Warcraft which basically means killing. There are various monsters and creatures located throughout Azeroth that operate in groups (also known as mobs) and grinding the mobs offers XP, gold and items. Grinding is another integral part of the Warcraft game and you'll be doing plenty of grinding naturally as you embark on new quests!

Professions

Another vital aspect of the World of Warcraft game are the professions. Although it's not mandatory, each player will choose a profession to master or even more than one profession. There are 15 Professions that are broken down into 2 categories as follow:

Primary Professions:

Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Herbalism, Inscription, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, Skinning, Mining, Tailoring.

Secondary Professions:

Archaeology, Fishing, Cooking, First Aid.

Each profession has its own advantages and some professions are better suited for certain classes than others. Before you choose a profession to pursue it's wise to cross reference which professions suit which class.

Getting Familiar With The Warcraft Economy

The World of Warcraft currency is measured in bronze, silver and gold. Financing your journey through Azeroth in early levels is fairly smooth but many players find they run low on finances at later levels.

Auction Houses are another integral part of the WoW economy where items can be bought and sold. Once one becomes familiar with the auction houses new avenues of gold making opportunities present there-selves!
